Mission Statements and What They Mean to Businesses and People

Passion Planners: Small Medium & LargeBefore I start working with a company, whether it is big or small, multi-million dollar or 150 sales on Etsy, I read the About Us. Some companies have this at the bottom, with a “Work With Us” or Corporate Values, or like Passion Planner, at the bottom of each page is their Mission:

Passion Planner is designed to be your 24/7 paper life coach™, helping you to get your life on track. We believe in a world where everyone has the courage, tools, and community to build their ideal life.

Most of these words resonated with me. A positive message about a product is important for many reasons. They want to help us

  1. as a life coach,
  2. use their product as a tool for keeping our lives on track,
  3. by giving us courage,
  4. with a community of like-minded people,
  5. build an ideal life.

A mission statement is not the easiest thing to write. It took me several weeks to come up with a way to express what this nonprofit meant to me and others. I also had to have the mission statement before I could get PlannerScrapBook Association to become a Nevada corporation and be filed under the IRS designation of a 501(c)(3) educational organization.

Not only is it hard for companies to come up with mission statements, but some companies suggest that people also make mission statements. In “First Things First” by Stephen Covey, he suggested that by having a personal mission statement, you can set up your goals. Personal mission statements can change over the years because of changes in your life. And I have seen nonprofits change their mission statements as well, as they have grown and expanded their outreach.

PlannerScrapBook Association’s mission statement is:

PlannerScrapBook Association is a NonProfit 501(c)(3) educational organization dedicated to helping its members find happiness and mental well-being through planners, scrapbooks, and journaling with physical and digital media.

We do this through education, meetups on and offline, and a trade show at the end of our fiscal year, which ends in July.

From this mission statement, you can obtain several important parts including:

  1. Both paper and digital formats are important to the organization,
  2. Dedication to its members,
  3. Using objects to find happiness,
  4. Help members with mental well-being,
  5. Use education and community to help achieve goals.

While some people might say that objects to find happiness isn’t important, I disagree. If I am going to have these objects anyway, to make them pretty or functional or whatever, why not use them to make me feel happy? I do enjoy looking over a task well done, and using a planner or scrapbook or journal helps me see that task’s value, worth, and helpfulness to me.

Does your business have a mission or About Me/Us statement? Would you like to join an organization that puts its members first?

During February and March 2020, small, medium, and large businesses get $50 off their membership. This $50 would be for in-kind donations and be based on the worth of product, samplers or small items, which we could give to our new members.

We will help promote and market your business as we go to conferences and meetups and can give out these items. A win-win-win for all involved. Use the code Laura50 for this special offer and send the items to 1970 N Leslie St. #12, Pahrump, NV 89060.

Thank You!
